Son of a hardworking painter and loving mother, Jon Marquez was born in East LA, California. He moved to the IE at age of 5, establishing his life until he relocated in his late teens. Jon’s love for art has always played a big roll in not only his life style, but his out look on life as well. pouring endless amounts of hours, blood, sweat and tears Jon never gave up on his dream of becoming a great artist one day. Staying creative has always been his drive even at a young age. not coming from an artistic background Jon was determined to learn how to draw and express himself through his form of art. At the age of 16, after school, he would visit Ink Pagoda, one of the first tattoo shops in Fontana, California, and hang out with his older brother Charlie, who at the time was a piercing apprentice under owner David Grubb. Jon never realized that it was only the beginning of his long life journey to becoming a tattoo artist, and would change his life forever.
At 18, he moved to San Antonio, Texas, Starting a new life with no friends and little family, he ventured out and got his first job as a gas station clerk. But as a year goes by, he realizes it's not what he wants to do for the rest of his life. Regardless, he eventually met a few friends there and continued to pursue his passion of tattooing as a hobby. He would buy supplies in the south side of San Antonio.
One day, they offered him the opportunity of a life time: they asked him to work at their north side location, Sin Tattoos. There, he would meet Jason Pena, Lenard Guerrero, Joe Joe and Zara Bordeaux, great artists that would help build and further his tattoo career. After some management changes, Jon followed his fellow artists Jason and Lenard to Rings of Fire, meeting owner Roger Salinas, artists Cathrine Orozco and David Beltran. After three years and the departure of owner Roger Salinas, Jon and his fellow artist followed Roger to open Jolly Roger's Tattoos near Lackland AFB. Jon then ended his partnership in the winter of 2014 to start a new chapter of his life back, in his hometown, Fontana, CA.
Returning to his roots, Jon was determined to take his love for tattoos to the next level. After several years of perfecting his craft Jon was on his journey on finding his next tattoo family. The Black Lantern in Dana Point, Ca.
