BEFORE YOUR VISIT

At The Black Lantern, every appointment is designed to be calm, focused, and creative. Our studio blends fine art, tattooing, and a deep respect for the craft. Clients enjoy private tattoo bays, a curated gallery environment, and access to award-winning artists who treat every piece as a one-of-one artwork. Our team of Resident Artists are kind and respectful professionals who aim to provide you with a truly exceptional experience and tattoo.

Prepare Your Skin

  • Stay hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment

  • Moisturize the tattoo area lightly (no lotions the morning of)

  • Avoid sunburn, tanning, or heavy exfoliation

Sleep & Food

  • Get a full night of rest

  • Eat a solid meal before arriving

  • Bring snacks or drinks for long sessions

Avoid These 24 Hours Before

  • Alcohol

  • Blood thinners (unless prescribed)

  • Excess caffeine

  • Intense workouts

What to Bring

  • Valid ID (required for all clients)

  • Headphones, phone charger

  • Water + snacks

  • Comfortable clothes that allow easy access to the tattoo area

What NOT to Bring

  • Guests

  • Children

  • Pets

  • Large groups

  • Outside food with strong smells

Clothing Tips


Wear loose clothing that won’t rub against the tattoo area.
For ribs/torso: bring a zip hoodie or open button shirt.
For legs: shorts or stretchy pants.

STUDIO POLICIES

Age Requirements

  • You must be 18+ to enter and to get tattooed.

  • Valid government ID required.

Health & Safety

  • We cannot tattoo clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • If you’re sick, please reschedule—no fees if you provide notice.

  • Alert your artist to allergies (latex, adhesives, metals, etc.).

Deposits

  • Deposits are nonrefundable.

  • Each Artist has their own rules about your Deposit so make sure to discuss it with them, directly.

Design Ownership

  • All artwork created by our artists remains intellectual property.

  • Designs cannot be copied, shared, or taken elsewhere.

Guests

  • The studio is cozy so we kindly and respectfully ask that clients do NOT bring any guests. They will be asked to stay outside. If there is a serious medical or personal reason for requiring a guest — you must get approval from Management before your appointment.

  • All clients must remain respectful of the studio, all artists, and all clients.

  • Showing ANY kind of disrespect will earn you a quick kick to the curb.

  • We reserve the right to refuse service to any and all assholes so bring positive vibes, only, and enjoy the art.

Cancellations

  • Each Artist has a different Cancellation Policy so make sure to verify with your Artist or you risk forfeiting your deposit.

  • No-call/no-shows may lose future booking privileges.

Photography

  • Photography is allowed at the artist’s discretion.

  • Please ask before recording.

Payment

  • Cash is preferred.

  • Each Artist accepts unique forms of payment so verify with your artist beforehand which forms of payment they accept.

  • Tips are always welcomed and greatly appreciated. We don’t work for tips but we are always grateful for that extra show of love and appreciation for a job well done.
